Melbourne was lucky enough to get a special taste of New York’s best pizza this week as infamous Brooklyn pizzeria Di Fara joins in on the MELNYC Melbourne Food & Wine program. The festival celebrates the strong cultural connections between the two global cities and allows a modern look at traditional American foods. Teaming with West Footscray local Harley & Rose Maggie Demarco Mieles, the daughter of Di Fara‘s founder is in town cooking up a storm and after being invited to taste-test the brands heavenly slice of pizza pie I know you are all in for a treat.
Opened in 1965 in Midwood, Brooklyn, in a traditional Orthodox Jewish neighbourhood, after emigrating from Italy the Demarco’s set up shop and since the pizzeria has rose to insane heights with scores of people waiting hours just for a traditional slice of pizza pie. 53 years on and Domenico and his five children all still work in the store and serve daily to scores of Brooklyn natives and tourists who visit the site just to fill their bellies. You’ll be able to experience you’re own slice of pizza heaven this coming Sunday at lunch as the Brooklyn natives descend on Harley & Rose to share with Australian pizza lovers a slice of their New York styled pies alongside salads, desserts and snacks made by the Australian restaurant.
