Adding a little charm to the already thriving Ivy dining precinct of Palings Lane Bar Topa is Merivale‘s latest venture and offers a new tapas menu inspired by the Spanish culture that features food from all of the sun-drenched countries favourite foodie neighbours. Former Merivale chef Lauren Murdoch has teamed with Jordan Toft to develop a short and changing menu of offerings that are sure to tickle your taste buds and as they offer foods from across the broader Mediterranean coast, that will have you wanting more, I am sure you will find the stunningly quaint little bar a great addition to the well executed dining experiences it’s surrounded with.

Holding just forty standing guests, with only a few stools to sit, the venue has been inspired by the informal, social experience of eating at a tapas bar and the vibrant energy that it creates. Guests are encouraged to pop in and choose a few snacks to enjoy, leaning on the bar while they decide what is next, or choose a special bottle to share amongst friends while perched in a corner. Offering both small bites and snacks, like sliced jamón on crisp bread or whipped salted cod which you can get at the counter, and tapas styled dishes, like chorizo, cooked simply, cuttlefish with parsley, garlic and olive oil, whole sardines, lightly sautéed chicken livers, patatas bravas and grilled vegetables the lanes newest venue is the perfect pit stop for someone on the go, but who still wants to enjoy the pleasures that food and wine play in one’s day.

If you haven’t yet seen or been to Bar Topa then do yourself a favour and head into the stunningly picturesque little slice of Mediterranean heaven for yourself. It’s homely vibe will make you never want to leave and it’s food will keep you believing that home is where the food is…
