Playing home to locals since 1907 Bondi’s iconic watering hole – The Royal – now has a new notch in it’s belt as Italian eatery Totti’s has joined the crew to feed the hungry mouths of locals and the scores of beachside visitors alike. Led by two heavy-hitting chefs, Mike Eggert and Khan Danis the newly launched eatery serves up hand-crafted pastas, meats and classic Italian cocktails in a relaxed eatery, courtyard and bar on the towns infamous Bondi Road.
Fun, simple and delicious, the menu is suited to all ages and designed to share, just like in toehold country. The front end is built around Italian-style flatbread, cooked to order and accompanied by small plates of local and house-made charcuterie, Italian cheese and seasonal fruits. Famed for pushing creative boundaries, Eggert extends the philosophy of his much-loved Pinbone pop-up at The Tennyson, with a selection of classic, uncomplicated pastas, made fresh onsite daily while Danis, who is well regarded as one of the best wood-fired chefs in the country with more than thirty years of experience under his belt (twenty as Neil Perry’s right-hand-man at Rockpool), applies his deft hand to Totti’s schnitzels, steaks and fish – cooked to perfection on the wood-fired oven and served with classic Italian sides (including the corn polenta made famous at Dirty Italian Disco).
